I began my teaching career in 2004 when I joined the SCMS faculty teaching art to students in fifth through eighth grades. I've been proud to be a GRIZZLY ever since!
Currently I teach general visual art class rotations for 6th, 7th and 8th grades and Advanced Art Class for 7th and 8th grades. General visual art classes are for nine weeks duration with lesson units focused on either one culture, a particular period of art history or a specific art process. The Advanced Art Class is a year long course that's ideal for students who have a deep appreciation for visual art or show talent in art making. Students can complete an application at the end of their 6th or 7th grade year to be considered for admittance to Advanced Art.
I also sponsor the SCMS Art Club after school. We are a 4-H affiliated club which meets a couple times per month. We have fun creating projects that individual members keep for themselves, making art for the community and others to enjoy, as well as experiencing field trips and activities with like minded artsy folks. Membership is open to any middle school or high school student. There is a fee to join.
Fun fact: I love Art Cars! My students have designed and created 3 different Art Cars over the years with me. The Fleur-de-Lis Mobile is our most current artwork that I sometimes can be spotted zooming in around town.
