READING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD!
Your child will be bringing home this folder with a book to read each night Monday-Thursday. Your child gets to pick his/her own homework book. This gives them choice and ownership as well as meets their interests.
The books will be different levels. Some children may be reading independently. Some children may be “reading” the pictures. Some children may be memorizing the text. And yet some children will just enjoy you reading to them. All of these stages are natural processes in learning to read as well as developing a love for reading.
A record sheet is provided for you to write down the title of the book and any comments you may have. This allows us to have two way communications throughout the year. For example, you might want to tell me your child loved reading the book to or with you and that you would like the book to be sent home again. Or you might want to ask me a question about something. Please feel free to use this record sheet at your convenience. I am looking forward to hearing from you; however, do not fill obligated to write something each and every night except the title and date.
If the folder and book are not returned the following day of school, your child will not be allowed to take home another book until everything is returned and will result in a time out.
