First Day of Kindergarten

FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN

Please bring:

Backpack (please put name on this)

A change of clothes placed in a Ziploc bag inside the backpack (in case of any accidents)

Water bottle with name on it

            Snack

Forms signed and placed in the homework bag that you received at Open House

            A GREAT BIG SMILE!!!!!!!!

If your child rides the bus:

Please do this on the first day of school to get your child in this routine.  We will have a lot of school staff to meet them and help them find their way.  They will come in the bus entrance and someone will ask them if they are eating breakfast.  Discuss this with your child ahead of time.  If they are eating breakfast, they will walk into the cafeteria, eat, and then go to the gym where they will sit with other kindergarten students.  This area is supervised with staff as well.  If your child is not going to eat breakfast, they will go directly to the gym.  Please talk to them so they will know what to expect.  You are more than welcome to meet them in the room, gym, or cafeteria, but please let them get use to riding the bus from the first day of school.

If your child is going to be a car rider:

Drop them off in the car line.  They will be asked if they are eating breakfast. You are more than welcome to meet them in the room, gym, or cafeteria, but please let them get use to this routine from the first day of school.

Coming to the room:

You are more than welcome to meet your child in the room the first 3 days, but after that we ask you let them find their way.  Help them find the big red diamond on the floor to turn into our pod.  Help them take out their folders and their hook to hang their backpack on.  They need to place their homework bags on their desks.  Help them find their seat.  Get out their crayon box and begin coloring the picture on their desk.  Make sure we know how your child is getting home (ANYTIME THERE IS A TRANSPORTATION CHANGE, WE MUST RECEIVE A WRITTEN NOTE.  PLEASE PLACE THESE IN THE FOLDER-NOT THE BACKPACK LOOSE.)

THEN… Give them a big kiss and hug, a great big smile and tell them to have a great day!  Then be really brave and be on your way with your care package.  Then (and only then)… You can let out that big tear!

Thanks, Ms. Lawson
