Welcome to a New Year

Dear Families,

It's hard to believe, but it's that time of year again - the end of another school year.  It is with great sadness that I tell my current class goodbye.  Still, it is time to look forward to a new amazing year.  My name is Minnie Zurkuhlen and I am very excited to be your child’s fifth grade teacher.  This is my ninth year in fifth grade and I love it!  I feel very blessed to be part of SCES family.

It is an exciting time for all of us as we think about new teachers and students, new books to read, different activities and concepts to master, and so much more. I look forward to sharing all of these exciting times with you and your child.  In fact, I’m already thinking of ways to make next year the best year ever.

As a parent and grandparent, I know that trusting someone with your most precious blessing, your child, is very difficult.  I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be his or her teacher.  I promise to work very hard to teach, inspire, motivate, and encourage your child to be his or her very best.  I will always treat your child the way that I would expect and want my own children and grandchildren to be treated.

Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” I know that we can make this the best year ever by working together.  Please contact me if you have questions, comments, or concerns by e-mailing me at minnie.zurkuhlen@spencer.kyschools.us.  If you prefer, feel free to call me at school and I’ll return your call.  If something “doesn’t feel right,” please let me know so that we can discuss the situation and solve the problem. I will be posting important information, useful links, and pictures on our class webpage.  Also, once, school starts, I will be sending class information to you most days through a brief text or email.  Please, make sure to sign up for this as it is very helpful in keeping you posted on what is going on in our class.

Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and success.  I look forward to getting to know you and OUR child during the year!  I’ll see you at our open house on August 8th from 5:30-7:00 pm. Have a safe and happy summer.
