Mission Statement: Be in the RIGHT PLACE at the RIGHT TIME with the RIGHT EQUIPMENT and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE...Good things are bound to happen!
I'll be using www.edmodo.com. I have a page there that is a great resource for students and/or parents to look for content-related posts and folders containing things like class notes and assignments, video links, etc. Ask me about it, and if you're interested in setting up to use it, I'll give you the group code.
Ms. Mathews and I decided to teach the new standards based on Geographic Locations! To that end, we've explored places like the Galapagos Islands, Iceland, the Gobi and Arabian Deserts, the Amazon Basin, and more to come. With each location we encounter, we cover every science standard that lends well to that location. For example, Iceland is a great place to look at when learning about plate tectonics, volcanism, the water cycle, hydrogen power, oceanic resources, and the effects of deforestation.
This strategy has made class more exciting for the students and more fun for us, too! It also helps to build cross-curricular connections with Social Studies in a profound and useful way. Of course, students have also used reading, writing, and mathematics skills to help learn about and explain the world they live in.
