Friday January 1, 2021

Happy New Year, Bear Family!

Winter break is winding down, and we are preparing to start back to school next week. I hope that everyone has had a restful break!

On Tuesday, January 5th, we will resume classes on a hybrid model of in person instruction. Back in September, I published a special edition that covers the details of hybrid instruction. If you are unclear on anything related to hybrid, in-person instruction, check that out here.

Transitioning Back into the Building

Some of you have expressed an interest in coming from virtual instruction back to hybrid (in person) instruction. As we build your in person schedule, we will look at your progress in Edgenuity. We will be as flexible as possible, but your student has to be close to where the in person class is in the sequence, in order to drop them into an in person course. If they are way behind, they would be missing important concepts and in a position of not understanding what is going on in that class. In that case, your child will return to the building, but stay in the Edgenuity course. They will have a consistent connection, an adult in the room to help them stay on task, and resources within the building to help them with the content.

These decisions will be made on a case by case basis, and your child may be entered into some in person classes, and some Edgenuity classes.

It is also worth pointing out that required courses must be completed with a passing grade, or they will be placed back on your child's schedule in place of elective / career pathway courses the following year.

Grades

Grades for the second nine weeks are due to be posted by teachers on Friday, January 8th. Encourage your child to take the first week back to take care of any missing assignments, and possible retakes for tests that will help their grade.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society will be announcing new members after the Christmas Break. Students will receive an email Tuesday, Jan 5th informing them of the Faculty Council's decision. Induction has been set for Thursday Jan 7th in the cafeteria at 6:30.

Need Help?

Communicate with your teacher to work out a time to come into the building if you need extra help. We are permitted to have small groups with safety precautions.

December 04, 2020

Happy Friday, Bear Family!

This short first semester is quickly winding down (there are several less days in the school calendar before Christmas, than after).  The last day of this semester is 2 weeks from today, Friday, December 18th. We all know that this has been a challenging first half of the year, and not at all what we wanted for our students. But please continue to encourage your child to log in every day and complete assignments. It does take five days of work per week to stay caught up.

  • If you had previously been attending school 2 days per week in our hybrid model, you will continue to follow this schedule through Tuesday, December 15th:

The last 3 days of the semester are reserved for final exams, according to this schedule:

Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other. Once a Bear, Always a Bear!

Letters have been sent to junior students, if you received one, please use this time off school to make an appointment to receive this vaccine, or send a notarized religious declination form to Nurse Jess

I pray you all stay health over the holidays, please remember that social distancing is still vital. Please avoid gathering with friends and sleepovers to ensure the safety of others. I will miss seeing you!

Mr. Bruce will be posting weekly videos and prep materials in this classroom to prep our 11th grade students for the ACT in March.  Whether or not college is in their plans, doing well on the ACT will have a big impact on their senior year and it has great benefits in other areas as well.
