SCHS Newsletter October 9, 2020

October 9, 2020

It is hard to believe, but we are entering fall break this weekend. We are in hopes that we can get ALL of our students back in the building soon, because we know that is what is best for them academically. We have had lots of requests for changing to in person instruction from virtual, and haven't been able to accommodate those so far. Soon we will be looking at the possibility of bringing some students back in the building who are currently virtual, so we have started a waiting list. If you would like to be on that list, please fill out this form.

Next week is fall break, so make sure your family relaxes and keeps themselves healthy!

Travel Advisory

This information is provided by SCPS District Health Coordinator, Cindy Hayes:

Regarding TRAVEL and the States to Quarantine for 14 days upon Return to KY
THIS INFORMATION IS FOUND ON THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE:  https://govstatus.egov.com/kycovid19
Scroll to the area titled Travel Advisory. The data is provided by John Hopkins. This information is updated as the states on the list will change, sometimes daily.  I will send this information out again on Thursday and Friday, but you can look on the site,  just like I am. I do not know what states will be listed there tomorrow, the next day or next week. YOU will have to stay informed, as you now have the tools to find that information out.

The purpose of the 14-day quarantine is to PREVENT an outbreak in OUR COMMUNITY and SCHOOLS upon your return.

This is what is currently listed on the website- SCPS follows the recommendations of Kentucky Department of Public Health.

Dress Code

Now that we are back in school, administration thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of the dress code. The full code is on page 6 of the student handbook, but please look at these most commonly violated rules:

  • No hats / hoods should be worn in the building
  • Holes / tears in pants should be below fingertip length (patch those holes in your favorite jeans, and you can still wear them!)
  • No exposed midriff or "belly shirts"
SBDM sets dress code in order to minimize distractions in the classroom and keep students focused on work. Please help us avoid embarrassment and be sure that your child is dress code compliant before they leave for school.

Nurse Notes

Letters are being mailed out this week to junior students who are non-compliant on immunizations. Fall break would be a great time to get have those taken care of! Please know that even if your student is always virtual, they still must be compliant on immunizations. Please make an appointment for the immunizations or complete a religious declination form (can be accessed on the KDE website and must be notarized).

Any student who turns 16 will need a Meningococcal booster, please be sure to schedule an appointment for this once your student is 16 years old. Have a safe and healthy fall break!

Student videos that every student should have seen, but may have forgotten about - lots of helpful explanations:

Explanation of the Course Map

A note - just use the due dates and progress tracker in Edgenuity is a general guide.  As long your student is staying ahead of the progress tracker in each course, they should be on track to finish by the end of the year or semester (based on the course).   They do not have to follow the calendar exactly.

We are suggesting that all students try to be caught up or ahead in all Edgenuity courses by the end of Fall Break.
