Due to current impact of the winter storm, all Spencer County Schools, Tiger Cub Village, and our Central Office will be closed tomorrow, January 6, 2025. As a reminder, tomorrow was already designated as a District Professional Development Day for staff, so no classes were scheduled for students. We will continue to monitor the storm’s impact, including potential power outages, and will make a decision regarding school for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as soon as possible.

𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: District administrators are closely monitoring the potential for winter weather Sunday through Monday. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority when making decisions regarding school closures. Below are the possible options we may consider in the event of winter weather: • 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐚𝐲: School is closed, and no instruction takes place. • 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐍𝐓𝐈) 𝐃𝐚𝐲: Students participate in learning remotely from home. • 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭: School start times are adjusted to allow roads to improve. https://bit.ly/24-25NTIPlan Now is an excellent time to review our NTI plan and ensure students have the resources they need to participate successfully in remote learning. Families are also encouraged to have an alternative plan in place for childcare in the event school is closed. Due to the number of driver call-ins this morning, I am required to create a double route. This primarily impacts Routes 21 & 22. I have outlined the adjusted schedule below. Please be patient as these times may not be exact, and other drivers are pitching in to ensure all students get to school safely. If other buses are running ahead of schedule, they will swing in to help assist! Thank you for your understanding as we work to get all students to their destinations. Thursday night, 10/24, the SCHS Educator's Rising group is hosting a Trick or Treat event at SCHS. Kids of all ages are invited to Trick or Treat through the hallways. We will have food trucks, groups passing out candy, face painting, and concessions. #togetherSC

Spencer County Community; I hope this message finds you safe and well. As you know, our area faced a significant weather event that resulted in the cancellation of school on Friday, September 27, 2024. While decisions like these often prompt varied opinions, the safety and well-being of our students and staff will always be our top priority. On Friday, several of our schools—TES, SCHS, SCMS, and SCES—did experience power outages, and some areas within Spencer County were without power into the weekend. Any time that one of our schools goes without power there are obvious safety concerns, challenges serving meals, and loss of communication. Additionally, I realize that communication on Friday morning was not as smooth as it should have been. I apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have caused. We went to work on getting the issue rectified immediately and were able to identify and correct the cause that led to some not receiving the notification email/text/call on Friday morning. To be certain, we will be conducting tests over the next two weeks to verify that any remaining issue(s) have been corrected prior to Fall Break. Lastly, we will be required to make up for Friday’s cancellation. We will address that in the future as we gain a better handle on the impact of winter weather over the coming months. School Closing Announcement: Tiger Cub Village will be CLOSED today, September 27th, 2024.

Spencer County Community; Due to the forecasted wind speeds and potential for flooding, Spencer County schools will be closed on Friday, September 27, 2024. The National Weather Service forecast indicates potentially unsafe conditions for our students and staff that will affect both arrival and dismissal. We will address and communicate make-up information at a future date. TigerCub Village will be open. A decision on extracurricular activities will be made by midday.
