Mrs. Pollett wanted to be sure her students were aware of last night's Lunar Eclipse & Blood Moon. They watched a Mystery Science video explaining how this phenomenon happens in nature, and how often they occur. They then celebrated with Moon Pies!

Cub Connection 3/14/25

Spring Picture Day is Tomorrow! Dress with your best smile.

Cub Families, please remember that all students should arrive to school by 8:50. We are having some students arrive late, and want to work on fixing that.

Our STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) wanted to share their project: Ready. Read . Go! These students have created book talks and book trailers to help students at SCES find a book they are interested in.
Please check out their website here: https://gamma.app/docs/Ready-Read-Go-l67f2fjqop8078p?mode=doc

Way to go Cubs!

Students in Mrs. Metts' 4th grade class met their reading goal and read over 1,000 pages during Read Across America Week! ๐

Letters have been mailed! Mrs. Dillโs first grade class has sent over 50 letters across the USA in hopes to learn more about schools from across the country. We will continue to update you on our journey. Where do you think our first letter will come from?

This Friday our Cubs started their morning with a good book!

Mrs. Mac's classroom has been learning about the nickel and penny. They were problem solvers and counted pennies and nickels at the classroom store.

*We want our Cubs to be focused on learning while at school.
*Please review our technology policy below:
Spencer County Elementary School recognizes that some parents will provide their children with smart watches/devices for safety reasons for emergency communication purposes or location tracking. During the school day students are not permitted to use their watch/device for calling, messaging, texting, surfing the net or taking photos. Smart watches/devices will be turned in to the homeroom teacher during any testing scenario. It is recommended that parents make sure that the watch is set on silent mode during the school day so that there will not be disruptions to the classroom. If a student uses a smart watch/device for anything besides checking the time, it will be confiscated by the teacher until the end of the day. Further infringement will require a parent conference to help determine the appropriate consequences.

Spring pictures will be taken on Friday, March 14th. Class pictures will be on this day as well. In the past you had to pre-order class pictures to receive one. However, this year if a student orders a spring package, they will automatically get a class picture.ย If you just want to purchase a class photo it will have a spot on the order form when the proofs are generated, so no need to preorder. Please call Barksdale School Portraits at 800-220-7667 with any questions.

Every Friday in March we are challenging our Cubs (and staff) to start their morning by reading a book.
We encourage every Cub to have a book ready to read at school this morning!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the close of our second full week of school since December, I want to take a moment to address two important topics: student behavior on the school bus and the submission of transportation notes.
I have received a significant increase in student misconduct reports regarding behavior on the bus. It is essential to remind our students that the same rules that apply in the classroom also apply on the school bus, as it is still considered school property. I ask for your assistance in reinforcing positive behavior with your child to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all students during their bus ride.
Transportation Notes:
1. Deadlines & Written Requests:
Any time a student's transportation must change, we require it in writing. Please submit all transportation notes to your child's school no later than 1:30 PM to allow our school personnel sufficient time to review them before dismissal. If a note is turned in after the deadline, it may be denied.
2. Submission Process:
We request that all transportation notes be emailed directly to the designated address associated with your childโs school. This will ensure immediate receipt and response, greatly reducing the risk of misinformation. Here are the email addresses for your reference:
SCHS: schs.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
Hillview: hva.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
SCMS: scms.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
SCES: sces.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
TES: tes.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
ELC: elc.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us
Director of Transportation: cameron.chesser@spencer.kyschools.us
3. Shuttle Notes for Sports:
For parents of high school and middle school students involved in sports who need to shuttle, I will accept one note per season that states the student is permitted to shuttle but it must specify they can do it as needed for the season, year, etc. These types of notes will be added into Infinite Campus.
4. Shuttle Routes (HS\MS Students):
- If your student is shuttling from SCMS to SCHS, they should ride Route 11.
- If they are shuttling from SCHS to SCMS, they should ride Route 16.
5. Approval Requirement:
Please remember that students must have an approved transportation note for any changes to their usual route. This policy is crucial for maintaining the safety and proper routing of all of our students as they travel to and from school.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you!

Cub Calendar details are coming home this week! Please check your child's backpack.

Third grade has been working with characters and their traits. To finish up with those character traits, Miss Lowe and Mrs. Thomasโ classes took a fun approach today by writing positive character traits about themselves on their hands, using the starting phrase โjust me!โ
We loved combining social/emotional learning with our Reading today! ๐๐ป

4:00 - Hope to see you there!

Do you like green eggs & ham?
Our amazing SCES cafeteria ladies served up green eggs and ham this morning for Dr.Seuss week. Our students were so excited to see the green eggs! ๐๐ณ๐
