After assessing multiple areas across the county,
Floodwaters have receded along all bus routes, with only a couple of exceptions where alternate transportation plans have already been communicated to families. All drivers have been instructed to use extra caution and remain alert for potential ice patches due to lingering drainage along roadways.
Additionally, we are closely monitoring the forecast as another round of winter weather is expected tomorrow night into Wednesday morning. Our team will participate in National Weather Service updates this afternoon, evening, and throughout tomorrow to stay informed on potential impacts.
In the meantime, we encourage students, staff, and families to prepare for a possible Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) later this week, should conditions warrant a schedule change.
Thank you for your support!

4th grade Browning / Brizendine classes did a Valentines STEM challenge. Their objective was to build a heart with 21 cups and 4 pieces of different sized cardboards / styrofoam. They had to use ALL of their materials, and the heart had to be standing!

Students in Ms. Voegeleโs class participated in a valentines activity in which they worked to develop their creative writing skills. Students were told to choose a small handful of conversation hearts to use to write an original story. The phrases on the hearts helped to develop the plot.
The candies were glued to the actual papers and took the place of writing the words. As you can imagine, the stories ended up being very funny.

Congratulations to our Cardiac Emergency Response Team! Taylorsville Elementary is now a Project ADAM Heart Safe School!

Ms. Porterโs reading classes showed skills of an effective communicator and empowered learner. Students chose a side of a debate, shared their thoughts with a group, but BEFORE sharing their own ideas they had to paraphrase what a peer said. Students worked on how to have a positive and fluid conversation while strengthening their knowledge of opinion writing.

4th grade is participating in ReadBowl, a global reading competition. A perk of reading the most minutes for the grade level is reading aloud to another class in our school (who guessed the correct total of minutes read for the week). The first quarter winner was Reuben Moore who read to Mrs Burnsโ first grade class.
