I want to provide an update regarding the safety concerns communicated earlier this week.
Since our initial communication on September 21, we have had a few additional reports that required investigation, including a copycat situation. Each concern has been taken seriously and thoroughly investigated in partnership with our School Resource Officer and local law enforcement. Appropriate action has been taken in each situation.
It is important that our students understand the gravity of making a threat, whether it is intended as a joke, an attempt to imitate someone else, or otherwise. Statements like these have serious consequences. They can cause fear and anxiety within our school community, require significant time and resources from school and law enforcement personnel, and may result in disciplinary and legal consequences.
We encourage all guardians to have a conversation with their child about the seriousness of making or sharing threats and the importance of immediately reporting concerns to a trusted adult.
Most importantly, we want to reassure our students, staff, and families that at this time, there is no credible threat to Spencer County Middle School. We will continue to remain vigilant and work closely with law enforcement to address any concerns that arise.
While we want students to understand the seriousness of making threats, discussing specific incidents with the entire student body can unintentionally create additional fear or anxiety. Instead, we are addressing concerns directly and appropriately with the students and families involved while continuing to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.
I want to sincerely thank the students who came forward and shared information, our SRO and local law enforcement partners, central office, and our SCMS staff who worked throughout this week to keep students' day-to-day experience as uninterrupted as possible while we addressed these concerns.
The safety of our students and staff is, and will always be, our highest priority. Thank you for your continued partnership, communication, and support of SCMS.

Our Grizzly hearts are BURSTING today after a visit from author and SCMS alumna, TC Kemper ๐๐ป
TC shared her passion for the arts, writing, and books with our students, delivering a message of perseverance and hope. Students answered trivia questions, learned about the publishing industry, and got the inside scoop on what inspired The Ginghams. We are so grateful to TC and Carmichaels Bookstore for making this homecoming event one for the books ๐
STLP is kicking off!
Is your student interested in robots, Minecraft, photography, digital art, or technology? STLP gives students a chance to explore their interests, learn new skills, create, compete, and work with a team!
Our first student meeting will be Thursday, September 24th from 2:30โ4:00 PM. This will be a meet-and-greet where students can learn about STLP and the different team opportunities available.

There are a lot of great things about driving a school bus โ a 180-day work calendar, working on the school schedule, summers and school breaks off, paid training, and benefits for full-time employees. It can be a great fit for retirees, parents, or anyone looking for a schedule that gives you more time at home.
You do not need a CDL or any previous bus driving experience to come out. Thatโs what weโre here for! Come meet our team, get behind the wheel, and see what driving a school bus is actually like.

BIG NEWS for the Career Exploration Lab! Weโve received approval from the Kentucky Department of Education through the CTE Supplemental Funds Grant Waiver to add FIVE new career exploration modules to our lab!
New Modules:
-Transportation Maintenance
- Facilities Maintenance
-Environment & Ecology
-Environmental Health & Safety
-Biotechnology R&D
These additions mean more career pathways, more hands-on experiences, and more opportunities for students to discover careers they may have never known existed!

There has been an accident involving Route 17 on Mount Washington Road. All students are accounted for, and there are no reported injuries.

Transportation information can be viewed by logging into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account or through your BusRight account. You should have also received a BusRight bus pass email yesterday around 4:00 PM.
If any changes need to be made, please contact the Transportation Office immediately. Reviewing this information is a crucial step in helping us ensure a safe and smooth first day of school.
Please remember: Without an approved transportation note, your child will be sent home using their default transportation on file.
